Mary Jane Grimes

Mary Jane Grimes, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Funeral services will be held at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Lodgepole, NE at 11:00 May 18th followed by a light lunch at the Lodgepole United Methodist Church.

Mary Jane (Bale) Grimes, the daughter of A.C. and Mary (Jenik) Bale was born on February 11, 1927 in Lodgepole. Mary Jane attended Lodgepole High School graduating in 1944. During the summers and after high school she worked at the Sioux Ordinance. In 1945 she went to Omaha and worked for Gates Rubber Co. as a price clerk for six years. She came back to Lodgepole and worked for C.A. Story Agency in Sidney and then for the KN Gas Co. in Chappell. She met her husband, Roy Grimes, in Lodgepole and they were united in marriage on October 8, 1960. They lived in lodgepole for most of their lives until Roy passed in 2009. Mary Jane then moved to Lincoln, NE where she lived for 12 years. She then lived in Fort Calhoun with her daughter for a year before moving to Lakewood, CO in May 2023.

Mary Jane was a devoted mother, grandmother of nine and great grandmother of eleven. She cherished time with her family, especially enjoying holiday and birthday celebrations. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and crafts. Her and Roy would travel to Arizona for several weeks in the winter to escape the cold and meet up with her brother Warren and his wife from TX. Mary Jane learned to make porcelain dolls and other crafts while there. 

Surviving family members are Kim McCown of Lincoln, NE, Cliff Grimes and wife Connie of Morrison, CO, Judy Grimes of Fort Calhoun, NE, eight grandchildren: Jessica Matzner and husband Ryan, Lexie McClure and husband Shamus, Courtney McCown, Megan Grimes, Lindsay Grimes, Hannah Grimes, Elizabeth Sevcik and husband Ryan, Samantha Egging and husband Keelan. Ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband Roy Grimes, her parents, brothers Vernon, Sheldon, Warren, Glen, Gordon, and Jack, grandson Schuyler Elwell and great grandson Kaden Wiesner.
