Ralph H. Brauer, the son of Erich H. and Anna Marie (Nienhuser) Brauer, was born March 26, 1926, in Cheyenne County. He attended country schools and Trinity Lutheran South Divide Parochial School. When it came time for Ralph to attend high school, he, his sister, and cousin stayed at their grandmother's house throughout the week while attending Sidney High School where Ralph graduated in 1944. Following his graduation, he worked on the family farm before he entered the U.S. Army and served from 1951 to 1952. Following his service, Ralph returned home to the farm and continued farming with his brother Harold until his retirement.
