Carol M. Wears, age 89, formerly of Sidney, passed away on her 89th birthday, March 16, 2024 in Lexington, SC.
Carol M. Wears was born March 16, 1935 in Alliance, NE to Raymond Jules and Margaret Marie (Klein) Kicken. Carol attended St. Agnes Academy in Alliance, NE, and Curtis Ag School in Curtis, NE. She married Donald Spencer in 1953 and raised their children on the farm north of Potter, NE. After their marriage ended, Carol married James Wears in 1983.
James and Carol moved from Sidney, NE to Lincoln, NE in 2007. Carol later moved to Henderson, NV then Lexington, SC to be near her daughters, Karen and Cindy. They loved their friends in Sidney, NE and enjoyed making and selling wood crafts at shows, going on Security First bus tours, and trips to the Rocky Mountains, Fort Collins, Cheyenne, Nashville, Las Vegas, New York City and Cozumel. She loved music, singing in the church choir, polka and square dancing, and her dominos group. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star and Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Carol's survivors include her children, Brenda Spencer-Nelson of Elkhorn, NE, Cindy (Dale) Abel of Chapin, SC, Karen (Richard) Sick Pleming of Chapin, SC, and Brent Spencer of Lincoln, NE; brother and sister-in-law Lucien (Margaret) Kicken of Scottsbluff, NE; brother-in-law John (Shari) Jensen of Arthur, NE; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and stepchildren Robert (Joyce) Wears of Weatherford, OK, and Gary (Rhonda) Wears of Perryton, TX.
Preceding her in death were her wonderful parents, loving husband (Jim Wears), son-in-law (Kevin Sick), sister (Beverly Jensen), brothers and sisters-in-law (Ray and Enid Kicken), (George and Dee Kicken), stepdaughter (Carol Hagen), and Donald Spencer.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Faith Methodist Church in Sidney, NE with Pastor Corey Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Alliance, NE at 1:30 P.M. Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on the Gehrig-Stitt website.
Friends may stop at Gehrig-Stitt Chapel to leave condolences for the family. Memorials are suggested to Faith Methodist Church or Crescent Hospice, Columbia, SC.
