South Platte Natural Resources District to Hold Public Meetings; Potential Changes to the GWMA Rules and Regulations

Nebraska's Natural Resources Districts have many responsibilities given by state statute, especially in protecting groundwater for use both today and into the future. With this objective in mind, the South Platte Natural Resources District (SPNRD) developed the Ground Water Management Area Rules and Regulations. While most areas of the SPNRD have adequate groundwater, this resource is not unlimited and tracking changes in groundwater quantity and quality is one of the NRD's many responsibilities.

To discuss groundwater, the SPNRD has scheduled public meetings in Cheyenne, Deuel, and Kimball Counties. Topics include levels, usage, model analysis, irrigation allocations, and transfer arrangements. Groundwater management affects all residents in our District, and we encourage the public to attend and provide feedback to assist the Board with future decisions.

Each session will have a formal presentation followed by a comment period. The following public meetings have been scheduled as seen in the graphic.

For a draft copy of the Proposed Amendments to the Districtwide Ground Water Management Area Rules and Regulations, visit http://www.spnrd.org or contact the South Platte NRD Office at 308-254-2377.

SPNRD Board of Directors meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the District office located at 551 Parkland Drive in Sidney. The Board Meeting Agenda and Minutes are available on their website.
