Coyotes Can't Keep Pace with Eagles
Potter-- On Friday night, February 2, the Lady Coyotes of Potter-Dix had a big win over the visiting Garden County Lady Eagles, while the Potter-Dix boys were unable to get the win against their Garden County counterparts.
The girl's game started as a tight defensive match, with each team's defense disrupting the flow of the other's offense. The teams battled but Garden County took a three-point 9-to-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second period had the Lady Coyotes break out, putting up 17 points while beating the Garden County defense. The Lady Coyote defense stayed strong, limiting the Lady Eagles to just five points and the Potter-Dix squad took a 23-to-14 lead into the halftime break.
Garden County finally got their offense rolling in the third quarter, but the Potter-Dix girls were able to match their scoring plus some, expanding their lead to 38-to-26 at the end of the quarter. A strong fourth quarter by the Lady Coyotes gave Garden County no chance for a rally, and the Potter-Dix squad pulled away for the 53-to-31 win. Senior Madison Williamson was impressive, scoring 25 points to lead the offense for Potter-Dix.
For the boys, their struggle of a season continued as the Garden County squad started fast, doubling up the Coyotes at the end of the first period, 14-to-7. The momentum carried over into the second period as Potter-Dix fell further behind, and the Coyotes went into the halftime break down 33-to-13. The third period went better for the home squad offensively, but they could not shut down the Eagles' scoring. This led to a tight fourth quarter as the teams' matched scores, but the Garden County lead was too large, and Potter-Dix fell by a score of 59-to-36. Senior Brayden Kasten led the scoring for Potter-Dix with 11 points in the loss.
The Potter-Dix teams were scheduled to travel to Peetz to face the Bulldog squads on Tuesday. The girls' team should be able to pick up another win, but the boys' team will have a big challenge against the tough Bulldog boys team.
