Gloria Dei Church will once again be holding its annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feed for the community on Tuesday, February 13 at the Lodgepole Community Center located at 732 Bates Blvd in Lodgepole from 5 pm-7:30 pm. Hot cakes, link and patty sausages, and scrambled eggs will be served on a free-will donation basis. Drinks will be hot coffee, orange juice, and milk.

This year, Dwight Kastendick from Grants, NM has made crosses to be given out, one-per-family, to those in attendance while supplies last.

The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feed has been an annual fundraising event for Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lodgepole for 15 years.  The main goal is to host a community event that brings people together for food, fellowship and fun, all while raising funds through the free will donations that can be distributed to help local organizations in the community.  Funds have normally been donated to the Meals on Wheels to cover the extra delivery costs to the Lodgepole, Sunol and surrounding areas as well as to Kimball County Transit Service.

The importance of the pancake feed to the community cannot be overlooked.  Lodgepole has always been a tightly-knit community, full of kind and generous people, and this event is an opportunity to not only continue a tradition, but to allow people to gather together for some good food and warm fellowship.

The event wouldn't be possible without the dedicated members of Gloria Dei and volunteers from within the community.  Tom Nelson has chaired the event for the past several years and is the main driving force in rounding up donations for the silent auction, door prizes, the food and extra help.

Gloria Dei has been part of this community since 1921 and during that time were part of a multi-point parish.  In 2018, the four-point parish dissolved and the Tri-County Lutheran Parish continued with just Grace and Gloria Dei.  Unfortunately, due to the passing of all of Grace's members, Grace Lutheran was closed at the end of December, 2023.  Gloria Dei is now a stand-alone church for the first time in decades, and is still served by PMA Brenda Tophoj.

The church also hosts the food pantry for Lodgepole and Sunol on the second Saturday of each month, stopping in Lodgepole at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church starting at 10:30 a.m., and in Sunol at the Demers Grain elevator at 11:30 a.m.

Pastor Lee Eads and his wife Sherry will have an information table on the food pantry at the feed. They also have generously donated a ham and turkey to be given as door prizes.

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church is located at 1011 McCall St. in Lodgepole; Sunday worship starts at 10:00 a.m. every Sunday.  They also have special services on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and Christmas Eve.
