SIDNEY--Sidney High School was bustling Friday afternoon as 18 teams and over 100 wrestlers converged met here to compete in the Sidney Girls 2024 Invitational. The High School Gym was set up with two mats, and the wrestling action was non-stop, with a big crowd of fans and supporters cheering the girls on. The Sidney girls were successful from the start, and Izabelle Owens went undefeated at 140 lbs to take the gold, and earn her 50th career victory during the tournament. Leeann Mulleavey also went unbeaten at 190 lbs to earn a gold medal. Sidney's Jadyn Cottam earned second place at 115 lbs and Analicia Hernandez earned third place at 100 lbs. Saphira Whitley earned 6th place at 170 for Sidney.
On Saturday, the boys' wrestling team traveled to Ogallala for a full day of wrestling at the Ogallala Duals. The Red Raiders topped Mullen and Yuma at the competition. Sidney's 42-to-30 win over Mullen was highlighted with wins by Patrick McCartney at 190 lbs, Matthew Cabbage at 215 lbs and Kaine Hill at 132 lbs. Sidney was edged 43-to-42 by Ogallala during the competition.
