Boys and Girls Teams Get Wins Before Break
POTTER- Both the boys and girls Coyote Basketball teams had easy wins against Minatare going into the Holiday break on December 19. The teams will get some well deserved rest until they start up again with tough matchups against Bayard on January 5.
Against Minatare, the girls started first by streaking out to a 15-to-0 lead at the end of the first period, and continued to score on their way to a 27-to-2 halftime lead. The Lady Coyotes shut out the Lady Indians in the third period while racking up 16 points, and with the substitutes playing in the fourth quarter, the Minatare squad finally scored some points, putting up seven points in the final frame. Potter-Dix earned the 51-to-9 victory, led by senior Madison Williamson's 18 points, 12 of which came from beyond the three-point arc.
The boys contest was closer, but there was no doubt that the Coyotes would come out on top in the contest. The 66-to-47 final score in Potter-Dix's favor seems a bit misleading as the Coyotes were in control throughout the contest. Senior Brayden Kasten lit up the Minatare defense, scoring 31 points. The only weakness in the Coyotes' game was their lack of production beyond the three-point arc, going 0-for-9 in the win. The Minatare team did a good job beyond the arc, sinking 7-of-19 three point attempts, but Potter-Dix's huge rebounding edge of 39-to-21 was too much for the Indians to overcome.
