Theater group's cure for the Holiday blahs will WOW you
In its first production in several years that uses an all-adult cast of actors ages 16-40, Way Out West Theater is presenting two opportunities to bring the much-loved holiday classic, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" alive to theater-goers.
Way Out West Theater has been entertaining local audiences since 1993, and cast-member Kelsey Arrington has been a part of WOW since before she could walk. Or talk. In fact, she shares a birthday with this theater company; her mother Pam is one of the original founders, and was pregnant with Kelsey when it WOW was launched.
"I have literally been a part of it since the very beginning," Arrington laughed. "And it is great because I have so many wonderful memories of being a part of this group and working with such incredible people."
Arrington plays a lead role as Lucy Van Pelt, Charlie Brown's nemesis and main antagonist. A little bit grumpy and a whole lot bossy, Lucy is also a purveyor of wisdom to anyone in possession of a mere 5¢. On playing the Van Pelt character, Kelsey commented, "Playing Lucy is a dream come true. From resurging my roots in theatre to witnessing new up and coming actors become a part of Way Out West; the experience has been absolutely incredible. Not only all this - but I get to wear saddle shoes and make people laugh for 35 minutes. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year."
Tickets are $5 for youth ages 4-10 years old; adult tickets are $10 and both prices include a chili and cinnamon roll dinner, a meet-and-greet with Santa himself and the performance of "A Charlie Brown Christmas". Tickets are purchased at the door.
On Saturday, December 16, doors open at 6pm and the show begins at 7:30pm.
An afternoon showing will be held on Sunday, December 17 with doors opening at 12:30pm and a show time of 2pm.
Both performances will be held at the Sidney Elks Lodge #1864, located at 1060 Jackson Street in Sidney.
