KEARNEY--Sidney senior Cross Country standout Talissa Tanquary added another win to her season's total, this time taking first place against nearly 200 competitors at the UNK High School Cross Country Invite at Kearney Country Club on Monday. Tanquary finished with a time of 20:14.21, about fifteen seconds faster than the second place runner, Liston Crotty of Auburn. Tanquary's finish led Sidney to a 9th place finish among 29 teams.
Freshman standout Kylee Kampf placed 20th with a time of 21:56.01, and the next highest finisher was freshman Emily Bashtovoi in 68th place with a time of 24:08.07. Sophomore Kyah Hicks placed 96th with a time of 24:59.04 and senior Daisy Gardner placed 113th with a time of 25:43.95. The Sidney team ended with a score of 169 for 9th place, ahead of Broken Bow (11th), Gothenburg (13th) and McCook (16th).
The Sidney boys also competed in a field of 339 runners, with junior Noah Canas leading the way for the Red Raiders with a 62nd place finish and a time of 18:44.81. Senior Brenden Shepard placed 136th with a time of 20:10.93, freshman Parker Dickman finished 155th with a time of 20:29.76 and freshman Mario Maytorena finished 172nd with a time of 20:41.33. Sidney finished 30th out of 39 teams, ahead of Ogallala in 36th place.
On Friday, the Red Raider runners are scheduled to compete in the 308 Distance Festival at Scottsbluff Country Club.
