NORTH PLATTE-- Sidney's Lady Raider Volleyball team traveled to North Platte on Thursday, August 31, for a triangular meet with North Platte and Ogallala. The Lady Raiders were able to split their matches, winning against North Platte in their first match then falling to Ogallala in their second match of the evening. The Lady Raiders move to 2-and-2 on the year, and were ready to open their home season on Tuesday, September 5.
Sidney played sharp from the start of the match against North Platte, pulling away early in the first set on their way to a 25-to-17 set victory. The second set had North Platte fighting back, but the strong Lady Raider offense overpowered the Lady Bulldogs, and the Sidney girls took the second set 25-to--20 for the 2-to-0 match victory. Senior Karysn Leeling led the offense with 10 kills in the victory.
Their second match, however, proved to be a tougher go for the Lady Raiders, with the Ogallala team playing well and capitalizing on Sidney mistakes. The Lady Indians took the first set 25-to-19, and continued their strong play in the second set, putting down Sidney 25-to-17. Senior Chloe Ahrens led the Sidney offense with 7 kills in the loss.
Sidney sits at 2-and-2 on the season, and opened their home schedule against Mitchell on Tuesday at Sidney High School. The varsity match was slated to start at 6 p.m.
