Attendees weary but happy

CHEYENNE COUNTY – Smiles, laughter, sunshine, rodeo, and a successful beer garden put the 2023 Cheyenne County Fair on the books as one of the best in recent years.

According to Cheyenne County Fair Board President Troy Kurz, the rodeo alone drew in nearly 1,500 people from around the county and from neighboring states. The beer garden was a huge success as were the other events throughout the week.

This year's fair had it all – from carnival rides, to 4H shows, horse and farm animal shows, a rodeo which featured fan-favorite mutton busting, food, games and an appreciation day for military, veterans, law enforcement and first responders. There was something for everyone at this year's fair.

Cheyenne County Fair Board member Ryan Filsinger wrote, "To say I'm happy with the turnout is an understatement."

Adding, "You guys killed it – supporting the Cheyenne County Fair and Rodeo, Sidney, Nebraska."

"A few of us were overwhelmed with emotion we couldn't talk about how successful this event was without tearing up," Filsinger said.

Filsinger continued and stated, "I don't remember these stands ever being this crowded."

There were a number of local kids who took home top prizes for ag projects and horse competitions in addition to the prizes handed out to the cowboys during the rodeo, such as the unique and inspiring projects presented by Cheyenne County 4H members.

Others had more to say about the success of this year's fair.

"I want to give a shout out to the Cheyenne County Fair Board," Rodeo Committee Member Deb Vach said. "As part of the Rodeo Committee, we seen that this group has gone beyond expectations and has worked their tails off to bring you a fantastic fair."

Adding, "Countless hours behind the scenes, during the events, and afterwards."

"So many volunteers stepped in to assist with the venue to ensure you got the best," Vach wrote. "Additional volunteers, you know who you are - Thank you and thank you Cheyenne County Fairboard. You done well!"

The next edition of the Sun-Telegraph will feature more of the fair and results from the various events.
