Jack L. Schilling, age 83, of Sidney, NE passed away in Sidney on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the New Heart Fellowship in Sidney, NE with Pastor Pete Morgan officiating. Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on our website. Burial will be with Full Military Honors at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, NE.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Jack's care and funeral arrangements.

Jack L. Schilling, son of Jacob and Dorothy (Troutman) Schilling, was born on June 6, 1940 in Brush, CO. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1958. After graduating, Jack joined the United States Navy where he served from 1959 to 1963. Jack attended WNTC where he received a degree in drafting.

Jack lived in Sidney for most of his life. He married his wife, Glenda Ruetzel, on October 12, 1958. They were married at the First Christian Church of which they were long-time members. Together, Jack and Glenda had three children; Mike, Kristy, and Sherrie. The couple moved to Minnesota for five years before Jack retired. While living in Minnesota, he worked as a draftsman for Wensmann Homes. Jack and Glenda were married for 60 years when Glenda passed away in 2018.

Over the years Jack worked for NIFDA, Cabela's, Walmart, and did drafting work part-time for decades. Jack was also a softball umpire and became the head district umpire. He was an officer in the Elk's and became the Exalted Ruler.

Jack is survived by his son Mike & wife Bev Schilling of Lexington, NE, daughter Sherrie & husband Tom Busse of Rosemount, MN, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jacob Schilling & Dorothy Martin, his wife Glenda, infant daughter Kristy, and sisters Marilyn, Leanne, and Jerri.
