Grads Split in MAC vs MNAC All-Star Basketball Games

The second annual MAC vs. MNAC Basketball All-Star games were held at Sutherland High School Saturday afternoon. Graduated seniors from area MAC conference schools participated in the games. The girls game was played first, and was won by the MNAC team. The boys played the second game, with the MAC team coming out on top.

In the girls game, the MNAC girls were able to build a lead and pull away from the MAC team. The MNAC team took the victory 77-to-44, led by game MVP Shalyn Safranek of Anselmo-Merna, who led all scorers with 24 points. The Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes were well-represented in the game, with Tyenne Berner scoring nine points on three, three-point shots in the second half. Lily Tabor scored four points and Kailey Nicklas played, but did not score.

In the boys game, the MAC boys were able to consistently score and keep the MNAC team behind, led by game MVP Johnny Vargas of Garden County with 25 points, 20 of them coming in the second half. The team was coached by Leyton head coach Chris Morgan and assisted by Corey Michelman of Potter-Dix. Potter-Dix was represented by Luke Kasten, who had 18 points in the victory. The Coyotes also had Karter Wittrock and Zach Rotert playing in the game. Leyton had Cort Rummel, Dillon Juelfs and Justin Ernest representing the Warriors. Creek Valley's Seth Wilber represented the Storm. The MAC boys won the game 87-77.
