Sidney's Red Raider Boys Golf team traveled to Gothenburg on April 20, battled windy conditions and a high caliber of competition, and finished their day placing eighth in a field of 15 teams. Ogallala took top honors with a team score of 350, followed with a tie for second place with McCook and North Platte each finishing with a 353 score. Sidney was not far out of the running with a 370, but the narrow margins between the higher finishing teams showed the high level of competition the Raiders had to contend with on the day.
Senior John Beier led for the Red Raiders with an 85, 13 over for the course and good enough for a 7th place finish. Beier had a good front nine, scoring a 39 with one birdie. But the back nine gave him trouble, scoring a 46 and collecting 7 bogies and a double bogey. John Meza placed 24th, finishing with a 21 over par 93. He was able to sink a birdie on hole 11. Jayden Dillehay finished in 35th place with a 24 over par 96. Logan Johnson placed 49th with a 34 over par 106. He birdied on hole number 7.
The Raiders next traveled up to Scottsbluff on Monday, April 24, to compete in the Scottsbluff Invitational. In a field of 10 teams, the Sidney boys finished ninth as a team with an overall score of 347, 59 strokes over par. They were able to beat out Mitchell, but were forty strokes off the place of winner Scottsbluff's team score of 307, 19 over par.
John Beier again led the Raiders, placing 24th with a score 84, 12 strokes over par. Jaeden Dillehay followed with a 27th place finish, scoring an 86, 14 strokes over par. Logan Johnson finished in 32nd place, shooting an 88, 16 strokes over par, followed by Cole Hanley in 34th, finishing with an 89, 17 strokes over par. Shane Lilley finished 50th, with a 105, 33 strokes over par.
Sidney next travels to Chadron on Thursday, April 27.
