Warriors Rout Storm, Fall To Hyannis

Leyton's Warrior Boys Basketball team had a big win against Creek Valley on Friday, then followed the win up with their first loss of the season against Hyannis on Saturday.

Friday's matchup was in Chappell, and the Warriors quickly got ahead and poured it on, scoring at will while their defense shut down the Storm attack. The Warriors had no problem cruising to a victory, with many bench players getting quality minutes in the 90-to-28 win.

On Saturday the Warriors hosted the tough Hyannis team, and got off to a good start, opening a 14-to-11 lead after the first period. But the Longhorns fought back and narrowed the lead to 27-to-25 at the halftime break. Hyannis was able to outscore the Warriors in the third and take a one point lead into the fourth quarter. The teams battled hard in the final period, but Hyannis was able to get a few more of their shots to fall, and came away with a 61-to-55 win, Leyton's first loss of the season. The Longhorn defense did a great job of limiting Leyton leading scorer Dillon Juelfs to just 3 points in the game. Senior Justin Ernest was dominant on the boards, scoring 28 points in the losing effort. Leyton next travels to Gering for a matchup with the Bulldogs on Friday.
