Powell Pleads Not Guilty, Hearing Set For January 4

Git-N-Split Robbery Suspect Receives Multiple Charges

On October 25th, 2022, Cory M. Powell was taken into custody by the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Department for allegedly robbing the Git-N-Split gas station on 10th Avenue in Sidney. Officers claimed Powell took $40 from the gas station after reportedly threatening a gas station employee into giving up the cash. Shortly after, officials claimed they found Powell walking down a sidewalk, and that he matched the description given by the Git-N-Split employee.

When confronted, Powell allegedly told officers that he had stolen the money, and he "didn't want to get violent" with the employee.

On Wednesday December 7, Powell appeared from the Cheyenne County Jail via video conference for an arraignment hearing on CR 22-106. He was represented by attorney Don Miller at the arraignment. Powell was charged with Robbery, a class 2 felony and Possession of Methamphetamine, a class 4 felony. He was also charged with 1 count of 2nd degree assault, a class 2A felony. Powell plead not guilty to all charges. The court ordered statutory discovery and set a hearing for January 4th, at 9 a.m.
