Bette Jean Hass, 84, resident
of Scottsbluff, NE and formerly
of Bridgeport, NE, died Friday,
December 2, 2022, at Regional
West Medical Center in
Scottsbluff.
Bette was born August 21,
1938, in Ovid, Colorado, to
Eugene and Loree DeManche.
She grew up in Ovid. She
worked at CA Story Insurance
Agency in Sidney, NE. She
met Jim Hass, and they were
married in 1961. They raised their family
on a farm outside of Bridgeport, NE. Bette
raised large gardens while on the farm
and canned everything she raised. Bette
also worked for the Elden Evers Insurance
Agency for many years as well as for
Plummer Insurance, both in Bridgeport.
She also taught Sunday school at St. Paul's
Lutheran Church for several years.
Bette could be seen each summer at
the county fair helping her kids get their
cattle ready for show. Along the way
she became a master at crochet and
quilting. She even taught all four of her
granddaughters to quilt with many of the
quilts placing at the Morrill County Fair.
Bette and Jim had many activities that
they enjoyed such as meeting friends at
the Eagles Club in Bridgeport, going to
Las Vegas or Deadwood, and traveling
around the U.S. They also loved getting
together with family and
friends to catch up and have
a good time. They especially
loved spending time with their
granddaughters and more
recently their great grand kids.
Bette is survived by her
husband, Jim of Scottsbluff;
daughter Kara (Glen) Buttolph
of Lewiston, ID, son Regan
(Cheri) Hass of Gering, NE;
four granddaughters, Nicole
(Joe) Summerville, Shelby
(John) Hedlund, Jesse Buttolph, and
Aimee Hass; two bonus granddaughters,
Kayla Roberts and Brett (Kamron) Rice
and bonus grandson Spenser (Kylie)
Rice; great granddaughters Audrey and
Ava Hedlund, Harper Hutchison, and
Jaylynn and Scotlyn Summerville; and her
brothers, Richard and Gary DeManche.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, Eugene and Loree DeManche,
brother, Robert DeManche, and a
nephew, Michael DeManche.
Funeral services were held Thursday,
December 8th at the Salem Congregational
Church in Scottsbluff with a luncheon
following the service.
Interment was at the Oregon Trail
Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport.
