Coyotes Blast Eagles, 109-41

Record Setting Offensive Performance Seals Win

Potter-Dix's Coyote Football team continued their undefeated season with a first round playoff win against the Brady Eagles in Potter on Friday 109-to-41, the most points scored by a D6 team in NSAA 6-Man Football history. It was the Brady Eagles' first year as a six-man team, and they were part of a record-setting performance they'd most likely want to forget.

The game started with Potter-Dix receiving the ball and freshman Dylan Tabor returning the kick off all the way for a touchdown. After a missed extra point attempt, the Coyotes led 6-to-0. After Brady received the ball, on their first play from scrimmage junior quarterback Riley Shirk threw a long pass to senior Dillon Miller, who then broke free and took the ball all the way for a touchdown. A successful extra point kick gave Brady the lead at 6-to-8. But it didn't last long as after the Coyotes recovered an onside kick in good field position, senior Luke Kasten took the pitch and tore up the sideline for a 60 yard touchdown run, and the Coyotes were ahead for good at 12-to-8.

The Potter-Dix defense then stepped up, forcing a four-and-out, then the offense took the field and on their first play junior quarterback Brayden Kasten threw a strike to senior Alex Anton who found the end zone, giving the Coyotes a 19-to-8 lead. Brady was still alive when Miller recovered a squibb kick and took it down the sideline for a touchdown, narrowing the Potter-Dix lead to 19-to-16.

That's as close as Brady would get for the remainder of the game, which had Potter-Dix scoring on nearly every possession, and their defense battling hard to keep Brady from coming back. At the end of the first period, Potter-Dix led 47-to-16, and then expanded their lead to 86-to-28 at the halftime break. Freshman Dylan Tabor's 75 yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter was the score that set the record, which was previously held by Arthur County with a 101 point game to start the season last year.

Potter-Dix scored three more times in the second half, but with the huge scoring outburst, that was all that was necessary for the Coyotes to set a new scoring record. The Potter-Dix defense was tough in this game, holding Brady to just 36 total yards on the ground while forcing eight turnovers. A final score of 109-to-41 ended the game and set the Number 3 seeded Coyotes for their next playoff game, a home contest against the Number 6 seeded 7-and-2 Pawnee City on Friday at 2 p.m.

Senior Luke Kasten again impressed, with 214 yards rushing on nine carries and four touchdowns. Junior quarterback Brayden Kasten completed 10 of 13 passes for 127 yards and connected for four touchdowns. Senior Alex Anton caught two touchdown passes, while junior Caden McConnell and senior Zach Rotert each reeled in a touchdown grab.
