Sidney's Red Raider Cross Country teams had another successful year under Head Coach Donna Wiedeburg, and the girls' team was able to earn 12th place in Class C and the boys' team earned 14th place in Class C in Kearney on Friday.
Sidney's outstanding junior runner Talissa Tanquary medaled with a fourth place finish at 20:10.1 to lead the Red Raiders. Senior Rheo Dykstra had a 50th place finish at 22:47.6 followed by sophomore Ileana Neufeld-Ponce in 81st place at 23:53.3, junior Avery Lawson in 91st place at 24:34.3 and junior Jenju Peters in 108th place at 28:23.5. Junior Alayna Wiegand was unable to finish the race.
For the boys, sophomore Jashawn Davenport finished his strong season with a 64th place finish at 18:52.0 followed by sophomore Noah Canas in 71st place at 19:00.0. Junior Brendan Shepard finished in 74th place at 19:01.4 and senior Micah Schneider finished 94th at 19:46.7. Junior John Meza finished in 112th place at 20.44.2 and sophomore Robert Stevens placed 115th at 21:27.3.
Leyton senior Axi Benish competed in the Class D race, and finished 68th with a time of 23:12.4.
Another successful season for the Sidney Cross Country team was capped by both teams qualifying for States, and Sidney's future again looks bright with a host of strong young runners expected to be on the team again next season.
