Leyton's Lady Warrior Volleyball team continued their good start to the season with three wins in four tries over the past week. Leyton now sits at 6-and-2 early in the season.
On Thursday the Leyton squad hosted Banner County and Hemingford for a triangular, and started off with an easy 2-to-0 win against Banner County, 25-to-6 and 25-to-12. Next up they faced off with Hemingford, and the Lady Bobcats gave the Lady Warriors a much tougher time, staying with the Lady Warriors in the first set until Leyton was able to pull away with a 25-to-23 victory. Leyton used the momentum of their first set win to power through the second set, putting away Hemingford 25-to-15 for the 2-to-0 match victory.
On Saturday the Lady Warriors travelled to Oshkosh for tournament play, and first up was a match against South Platte. The Lady Warriors took the first set from the Lady Blue Knights, 25-to-17, but South Platte fired back in the second set and won the set 25-to-15. Both teams battled hard in the third set until Leyton was able to get the final points and take the set 25-to-21 for the 2-to-1 match victory. Next up was the tough team from Garden County, and the Lady Eagles played hard and took the first set 25-to-22. Leyton flipped the script on Garden County in the second set, outlasting the Lady Eagles and winning 25-to-22. The deciding set was tight and the teams battled hard. Extra points were required, and Garden county was able to outlast Leyton for a 28-to-26 win and a 2-to-1 match victory.
Leyton matched up with Creek Valley for their last contest of the tournament, and after taking the first set 25-to-17 from the Lady Storm, had a lapse and allowed Creek Valley to take the second set 25-to-15. But Leyton regrouped and fired back, earning a solid 25-to-14 win in the third set for a 2-to-1 match victory.
Leyton next hosts Anselmo-Merna for Homecoming on Friday.
