East Team Rallies At 44th Annual West Nebraska Football Game

West Beats East At 38th Annual Volleyball All-Star Game

The East All-Stars were able to rally from a three point deficit at the half to tie, then go ahead to tally a 31-to-24 victory over the West All Stars in the annual contest in Scottsbluff on Saturday.

The West All-Stars took an early lead on a Dawson Dunbar touchdown run and two point conversion. With the West team leading 14-to-11 at halftime, the East team rallied behind the arm of Broken Bow quarterback Nolan Wetovick, tying the game at 17 then going up by two touchdowns.

The West team had a rally of its own, closing to within a touchdown late in the fourth quarter when Leyton quarterback Scout Gamble to Gering's Tyler Garrett. Potter-Dix's Thomas Muldoon also caught a touchdown pass from Garrett for the West team, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, and the East team came out victorious in the contest.

The East team's Cooper Ray of Hi-Line was named Offensive MVP and the East's Keifer Anderson from Broken Bow took Defensive MVP honors. Scottsbluff's Jackson Ostdiek won the Sportsmanship Award for the West team.

Hayden Foster of Perkins County and Kolton Hager of Wallace won the Richard Slicker Family Scholarship Award.

Earlier, the 38th Annual West Nebraska All Star Volleyball Game was played at Cougar Palace at WNCC, and the West team started hot and took control of the match, winning the first set 25-to-20.

The West team capitalized on their height and leaping abilities to take the second 25-to-18, but the East team came back in the third set to push back on the West team.

West rallied at the end of the set to take the match with a 28-to-26 third set victory.

The girls continued to play for the fans who made the trip, and went to five sets. The East team was able to battle back to take the fourth set 25-to-19, and continued their success in the fifth set, winning 15-to-9.

The West team's Jacey Garrett of Chadron was named team MVP as well as the Richard Slicker Family Scholarship winner. The West team has now won five of the last six meetings between the All-Star teams.
