AWA: '#NotMe Day' to Take Place on June 18

In light of the recent tragic events across the nation over the last few months I’ve been asking myself many questions, primarily- am I prepared enough to protect myself and my loved ones for the evil that pervades our society?

It’s a horrible reality that we can no longer go to the grocery store or to church without the possibility of something terrible happening. Now I won’t get into the politics of it all because that’s simply not my place. But I do want to encourage each and every one of you to thoughtfully consider how you want to prepare yourselves for daily living in our current society.

Will you choose to take a self-defense class? Do the training and start carrying a gun? Tune up your situational awareness skills and have a plan every time you go into the store, church, school, etc.? At the end of the day it has to be a personal decision and based on what you’re comfortable with; but you do need to think about these harsh realities and figure out how you can be as prepared as possible.

Many of us in the Armed Women of America group have chosen the path of training with a firearm so we can feel like we have the most protection possible.

Each year we have a #NotMe Day to give women an opportunity to stand in solidarity with sister self-protectors and show the world they refuse to be a victim or to say #NeverAgain to ever being a victim again.

While there is no official #NotMe Day planned for this year on the national level, our Sterling chapter will be hosting our #NotMe Day at our regularly scheduled meeting on June 18th.

“Women are tired of being the prey of violent criminals and are doing what it takes to protect themselves and their loved ones,” shares Carrie Lightfoot, #NotMe Day Organizer and founder of the Armed Women of America Shooting Chapters.

#NotMe Day is an opportunity for all women to join together and show the world that women refuse to be forever bound to the unequal battlefield of violence,” Lightfoot continued.

Our group invites you to come join us this Saturday at the Logan County Shooting Sports Complex to participate in #NotMe Day. Each participant will fire three rounds to symbolize: I am empowered, I am prepared, and I will not be a victim.

Even if you don’t want to participate by shooting, we’d love for you to come and see what our group is all about. We know there are women out there who would get a lot out of being in our group and we’d love to meet you!

Please join us for the Armed Women of America (AWA) Sterling Chapter meeting on June 18th from 9 am to 11 am at the Logan County Shooting Sports complex, 12515 Highway 61/2nd Amendment Way off Highway 61 Sterling.
