Sidney 8th Grade Jumpers Ready For High School Competition

Sidney's 8th Grade High Jumpers are a special group, and look to add to the already talented Sidney High School Track & Field team when next season comes around. With three 8th grade jumpers already consistently clearing 5'6” in competitions, Sidney Middle School coach Jack Thorpe says the boys will be contributing to the High School team's success soon.

“Our three top jumpers all cleared 5'6” or better, with 8th grader Alek Doty clearing 6'1” at the Sidney Middle School Invite on May 11,” said Thorpe.

Doty was tied for fourth place on the National Middle School High Jump Performance List.

Thorpe sees big success for his jumpers, and singled out Doty for his outstanding performance. “We once had a middle-schooler clear 6 feet in eight grade some time ago. His name is Paul Hamilton, and he still holds the High School record at 7 feet. He went on to win a couple of Big 10 championships while competing at University of Nebraska,” said Thorpe.
