There was a time when a county fair was a meeting of farm hands, ranchers and cooks and gardeners showing the county their skills. In Cheyenne County, that history dates back more than a century.
The annual Cheyenne County Fair is quickly approaching its century mark, and this year the Fair Board is doing something different.
The Night Show entertainment will feature Savannah Chestnut, and up and coming country singer. Chestnut comes from Americus, Kan., a small town near Emporia.
This year's concert will include a brisket dinner and chips. Drinks will also be available. In addition, as a welcome back from the pandemic restrictions, the Fair Board is taking care of the gate prices. Enjoy the concert and a sandwich on the Fair Board.
The dinner will begin at 5:30 and the concert at 7:30 p.m. Freewill donations will be accepted for the dinner and the concert.

The Cheyenne County Fair Board is also seeking groups who would volunteer as ticket takers and a cleaning crew for the grandstands throughout the week.
The Fair Board is also working on updating the facility to ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements. Among the projects, the Fair Board discussed a golf cart used to assist Fair attendees with mobility limits.
This year's fair will also include a demolition derby by BST Promotions. The demolition derby is scheduled close the fair at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 30. Tickets are $10 for admission. Pit passes will be available at $30 for adults, and $20 for youth.
The Board discussed contracting for the Fair rodeo. The PRCA rodeo is planned for 7 p.m. Monday, July 25.
Coffee lovers can also expect a teen take on your favorite beverage at the fair. The Raider Made coffee bus is expected to make its appearance during fair week. The Raider Made coffee bus is a refurbished school bus redesigned to take coffee to the customers. Raider Made also has a coffee shop in Sidney High School.
