Joyce Elaine (Hovarter) Brauer, 81, of Sidney, passed away on May 11, 2022 at Sidney Regional Medical Center. At her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. You may view Joyce’s Book of Memories, leave condolences, photos and stories at http://www.gehrigstittchapel.com.

Joyce was born August 25, 1940 in Fort Wayne, Indiana the 7th child of Floyd and Dorothy (Pelkey) Hovarter. Joyce was the “baby” of the family. She was nicknamed “Cookie” and was known by that name by family, extended family, classmates, teachers, and employers for many years.
She attended Central High School in Fort Wayne for her freshman year. She moved to Huntertown, Indiana (a small rural town outside of Fort Wayne) where she finished her last 3 years and was a cheerleader for the Huntertown Wildcats. After high school she worked at a Fort Wayne telephone company as a stenographer.
She married Charles Gann and had one child, Shelley Renee’ (nicknamed “Candy”). Chuck was transferred to California with his job. She became very interested in bowling and did well in league play and tournaments. She moved to Scottsdale, AZ where she became a real estate agent working as a Property Manager for 75 privately owned homes. She also raised Appaloosa horses; trail riding and raising foals were her most relaxing interests.
Joyce met her true love, Ivan Brauer, and together they moved to Yuma, CO. She worked for Korf, Agri-Inject, and finally settled for 20+ years at Equitable Savings and Loan.
She battled several cancers for many years. Joyce and Ivan moved to Sidney, NE where Ivan was born and raised.
To mourn her passing are her husband, Ivan; sister Ruth of Bronson, FL; brother William “Bill” and wife Henrietta of Silver City, NM; daughter Shelley “Candy” and fiancé Doug Ford of Tempe, AZ; step-daughter Laurie and husband Don Ullmann of Phoenix, AZ; step-son Stanley Brauer and wife Diana “Dee” of Yuma, CO; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her demise were her parents Floyd and Dorothy Hovarter; brothers Floyd Jr “Bud,” Richard “Rick,” and Donald; sister Sharon Martin; and step-grandson Perry Ullman.
