Leyton's Warrior Boys Track and Field team took top honors at the MAC High School Conference Meet at Bayard High School on May 3, racking up 165 points at the end of the day. Garden County placed second with 107 points and Bayard placed third with 97 points. The Potter-Dix boys team placed fourth with 93.5 points, and the Creek Valley boys finished in sixth with 9 points.
For the girls teams, Bayard took top honors with 163.5 points, Leyton placed second with 107 points and South Platte placed third with 85.5 points. Potter-Dix's girls team placed fourth with 65 points and Creek Valley placed sixth with 28 points.
The conditions were favorable with a slight breeze as temperatures warmed during the day, setting the stage for many outstanding performances by the local teams. For the boys, Leyton senior Mason Reimers placed second in the 200 Meter Dash and Long Jump and Leyton junior Cort Rummel placed second in the 400 Meter Dash and Pole Vault. Leyton junior Justin Ernst placed second in the 800 Meter Dash. Leyton junior Gabriel Tretter won the 1600 Meters with a time of 5:14.12 and placed second in the 3200 Meters. Leyton senior Jonathan Borges continued his stellar season with wins in the Shot Put at 41' 10” and Discus at 128' 5”. Leyton senior Scout Gamble placed second in the High Jump, and the 4X100 Meter Relay team (M. Shepard, KJ Bush, J, Ernest, M. Reimers) won with a time of 45.08. The 4X400 Meter Relay team (J. Ernest, C. Rummel, C. Carter, KJ Bush) won with a time of 3:48.42. Potter-Dix junior Luke Kasten won the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.58 and also won the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 23.62. Kasten also placed third in the Long Jump. Potter-Dix senior Thomas Muldoon won the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 54.21 and the 800 Meter Dash with a time of 2:07.59. Muldoon also won the High Jump clearing 5' 6”. Creek Valley senior Alexander Caraveo placed third in the 800 Meter Dash and fifth in the 400 Meter Dash to lead the Storm's scoring.
For the girls, Leyton freshman Shawnee Gamble won the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.32 and the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 27.26. Leyton junior Axi Benish won the 800 Meters at 2:41.97, the 1600 Meters at 6:25.68 and the 3200 Meters at 13:21.01. Leyton freshman Zaili Bensih won the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 49.97 and placed second in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Leyton sophomore Claire Watchorn placed second in the Discus and Leyton's 4X100 Meter and 4X400 Meter Relay team (T. Beutler, S. Gamble, C. Watchorn, Z. Benish) won both events at 53.54 and 4:36.79 respectively. Potter-Dix freshman Crystal Dhooge placed second in the 800 Meters and 1600 Meters. Potter-Dix junior Jayden Shoemaker placed second in the 3200 Meters and second in the High Jump. Potter-Dix junior Lily Tabor placed second in the Shot Put. Creek Valley freshman Karsyn Burgmann won the High Jump, clearing 4'9”.
Leyton, Potter-Dix and Creek Valley are next scheduled to compete at the NSAA D-9 District Meet at Leyton High School on Thursday, May 12.
