Sidney's Red Raider Track & Field teams had a busy day on Friday, with the varsity squads traveling to Lexington for the Don Bader Invitational, and the junior varsity squads crossing the border and competing at the Kendra Roeder Invitational in Pine Bluffs, Wyo.
The varsity boys continued their outstanding season, and although no team scores were available, the Red Raider boys took home thirteen medals, including five golds.
Sophomore Luke Holly continued his outstanding performance this season in the sprints, winning both the 100 Meters and 200 Meters, with times of 10.85 and 22.62 respectively. Senior Mitch Deer won the 400 Meters with a time of 52.13, and the 4X800 Meter Relay team (Daniel Bashtovoi, Cameron Brauer, Mitch Deer, Trey Johnstone) won gold with a time of 8:30.68.
Junior Cameron Leeling won the Long Jump with a distance of 21' 11.5”, while other outstanding performances included sophomore Isak Doty taking third in the 100 Meters and 200 Meters, senior Daniel Bashtovoi taking second in the 800 Meters and the 1600 Meters, and junior Jacob Dowse placing second in the High Jump, followed by Leeling in third place.
The girls varsity did not have the same success as the boys, with only sophomore Karsyn Leeling earning a gold medal in the Long Jump with a distance of 18' 3.75”. Leeling also placed second in the High Jump.
The varsity teams will be sending some athletes to the Best in the West Classic in Scottsbluff on Tuesday, and the full team will be in action at the Western Conference Meet in Sidney on Friday.
