The Cheyenne County School District No. 1 Board of Education met April 11.
The board approved three resignations and four teaching contracts.
Chaney Peterson resigned as the Sidney High School Ag teacher and FFA advisor. Peterson has been with the school district about two years. She helped revive the high school’s FFA program, including chaperoning students to the national convention and hosting a dinner and labor auction to benefit the chapter.
“It has been a pleasure to work with you, the rest of Sidney Public Schools staff and the Sidney community. I am honored to have had the opportunity to hel get this ag and FFA program up and running. You have a great group of students, parents, community members and agriculturists who will certainly help continue growing the program,” she said in her resignation letter to Sidney High School Principal Chris Aren’t and Superintendent Jay Euler.
Alex Cape resigned as algebra, pre-algebra and Business Math teacher.
“It has been a pleasure working at Sidney High School this year. However, my personal life is headed in a different direction and I will not be teaching with the school district next year, Cape said in her resignation.
Elsa Brinklow resigned as the lead teacher for the Life Skills Program at Sidney High School. Her final day is May 20, 2022.
“I appreciate the professional and personal development in which this district has provided me with over the last year. I feel it is time for me to move onto new opportunities and challenges in the community of Lincoln, Neb., where I will reside within the distance of my family and pursue educational opportunities at the University of Lincoln,” she said in her resignation.
The board then approved a teaching contract with Coley Smith as a new Special Education and Early Childhood teacher, Summer Hulbert as a new sixth grade teacher, Krista Pittam as a Title Reading teacher at South Elementary School and Niki Dolan for Special Education at North Elementary School.
The board also recognized Daniel Bashtovoi and Rishi Krishna as National Merit Scholarship students and Misty Michelangelo as recipient of the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association Music Teacher of the Year.
The board also approved four students entering the District and two leaving.
