Sidney Girls Take Mitchell Invitational

Boys Edged By Chadron

Sidney's Red Raider Track and Field teams traveled north on Saturday to compete at the Mitchell Invitational, and the girls squad took top honors with 99 points while the boys squad was edged out for first place by Chadron by one half point.

Twelve teams competed in the girls events while 11 competed in the boys events. The weather cooperated nicely with cool weather warming up as the day progressed with only mild winds through the day.

The Lady Raiders won many medals, with golds for junior Gabrielle Fortner in the 200 Meters at 27.33, sophomore Talissa Tanquary in the 800 Meters at 2:31.09, sophomore Chloe Ahrens in the 100 Meter Hurdles at 15.96. Sophomore Karysn Leeling won two events, the High Jump clearing 5' 5” and the Long Jump with a distance of 16' 11.5”. Junior Rheagan Stanley won the Pole Vault by clearing 8' 6”, and the 4X100 Meter Relay team (Chloe Ahrens, Gabrielle Fortner, Payton Schrotburger , Kayla Westby) took first with a time of 52.43.

For the boys, gold medals were won by sophomore Luke Holly in the 100 Meters at 11.28, senior Mitchell Deer won the 400 Meters with a time of 50.21, and senior Daniel Bashtovoi won the 800 Meters at 2:04.12. Senior Cameron Brauer won the 1600 Meters at 4:42.96, and the Sidney runners continued their dominance by winning all three relay events. Sidney won the 4X100 Meter Relay (Sawyer Dickman, Isak Doty, Luke Holly, Jackson Russell) with a time of 44.17, the 4X400 Meter Relay (Mitch Deer, Trey Johnstone, Jackson Russell, Noah Canas) with a time of 3:33.78 and the 4X800 Meter Relay (Daniel Bashtovoi, Cam Brauer, Mitch Deer, Trey Johnstone) with a time of 8:20.98. Senior Sawyer Dickman won the High Jump clearing 6' 1”.

The Sidney Girls took first place with 99 points, followed by Chadron with 78 points and Gering with 67.5. The Sidney Boys took second place with 154 points. Chadron took first with 154.5 and Gering placed third with 51 points. The Red Raiders are back in action on Thursday with split squads at the Alliance Invite and the Dutch Zorn Invite in Gothenburg.
