Peetz entered the Class 1A District 4 Tournament on Monday February 21needing to win a “play-in” game against Weldon Valley to advance, and the Peetz boys got the job done with a 59-to-40 victory over the Warriors.
Peetz started strong by opening a lead in the first period, and ending the quarter on top 14-to-6. Weldon fired back in the second quarter but was unable to stop the Peetz offense, and the teams went into the break at 29-to-16 in favor of the Bulldogs. Peetz kept up the pace in the second half, scoring 15 points in each quarter while their defense stopped the Warriors from going on any big runs or chipping away at the lead.
Peetz ended the game with a 59-to-40 final score, and moved on in the tournament to face Briggsdale. Sophomore Noah Naegele led the Bulldogs with 23 points in the win ver Weldon Valley.
Peetz matched up with Briggsdale, a team they lost to early in February 61-to-35, on Wednesday February 23.
Although the Bulldogs were able to get some good looks and score 14 points in the first period, the Falcons speed and athleticism was no match for the Peetz team, and they scored 28 points in the first quarter. The teams had an evenly-matched second quarter, but Briggsdale still had a big lead, 41-to-26, at the half.
Briggsdale had a big 23-to-8 third quarter to put the game away, and coasted through the fourth quarter to take the 78-to-44 victory and advance to the Regional Finals. Naegele again led the Peetz offense with 15 points, and sophomore Aiden Hill broke double-digits with 10 points in the loss.
Peetz ends their season with a 6-and-14 record, and a fourth place standing in the 1A North Central League.
