Potter-Dix's Lady Coyote Girls Basketball team had three games over the last week as they prepare for this week's MAC Tournament.
They started last Tuesday by hosting the Kimball Lady Longhorns, and found themselves in a big hole at the end of the first period down 24-to-1. Both teams started slowly, with Potter-Dix struggling to get the ball past half court and getting off very few shots, while the Lady Longhorns had a scoring spurt at the end of the quarter to take a big lead. The Lady Longhorns continued to pull away, leading 42-to-7 at the half on their way to an easy 57-to-15 victory.
The Lady Coyotes tried to regroup Friday night against a strong Leyton Lady Warrior team, but had no luck as the Lady Warriors played a strong defensive game and had no trouble scoring against the Potter-Dix defense. Leyton freshman Zaili Bensih was too much for the Lady Coyotes to handle as she scored 31 points in the 56-to-13 Leyton win.
On Saturday, the Lady Coyotes regrouped and traveled to face the Hay Springs Lady Hawks, and a strong first quarter by Potter-Dix had them leading 17-to-11 in the early going. They continued their strong play through the second quarter and went up by a score of 34-to-24 at the half. Hay Springs battled back in the third period, trimming the deficit by four points, but solid shooting and strong defense by Potter-Dix in the fourth quarter were able to hold off the Hay Springs surge, and the Lady Coyotes took the victory by a score of 54-to-46.
Potter-Dix moves their record to 3-and-10 for the year and start the MAC Tournament on Tuesday.
