Tough Week For Lady Coyotes

Potter-Dix's Lady Coyotes had a tough week, playing four games and coming up empty in the win column. On Monday, January 3, the Lady Coyotes started the new year hosting the Lady Lions from Morrill, and were able to keep close with a tight and well-played first half. Coming out of the half down 25-to-24, the Lady Coyotes had a strong third quarter and built a lead against the visitors until the end of the period, when the Lady Lions stormed back and took advantage of Potter-Dix miscues and cold shooting to cut the Lady Coyote lead to one point. Morrill had multiple opportunities to take the lead, but went cold at the free throw line. Finally, at the end of the period, Morrill hit a three pointer to take a 39-to-37 lead into the fourth quarter. Morrill was then able to outscore Potter-Dix 9-to-7 in the fourth quarter to hold on and earn the 48-to-44 win.

The Lady Coyotes next hosted Perkins County on Tuesday January 4, but the Lady Plainsmen's defense proved to be too tough for the Lady Coyotes, forcing outside shots and not giving much opportunity for easy baskets. Down 28-to-14 at the half, the Potter-Dix squad tried to make adjustments in the second half, but were unable to overcome the Perkins County defensive pressure. The Lady Coyotes battled hard in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit and fell by a final score of 57-to-30.

On Friday, the Lady Coyotes hosted a tough Bayard Lady Tigers team, and were quickly overpowered by their strong defense and high-scoring offense. The Potter-Dix girls battled hard but could not match up well against the visitors and fell by a final score of 61-to-19.

The Lady Coyotes traveled to South Platte to take on a strong Lady Blue Knights team, and were quickly overmatched. The South Platte defense smothered Potter-Dix's offense, and built a 29-to-8 lead at the half. South Platte came out in the third period and went on a tear, putting up 29 points against Potter-Dix's nine. The South Platte team cruised through the fourth quarter and collected the 69-to-17 win.

Potter-Dix's record moves to 2-and-8 on the season, and they get a chance to get back in the win column on Tuesday as they were scheduled to host the Kimball Lady Longhorns in Potter.
