SCOTTSBLUFF —Western Nebraska Community College's Health Information Technology (HIT) program received its continuing accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
The comprehensive program review conducted by the Health Information Management Accreditation Council and the CAHIIM Board of Directors recognizes WNCC's HIT program's substantial compliance with the CAHIIM national accreditation standards. The accreditation is valid through 2028, when the next program review will take place.
"This reaccreditation process allowed us completely overhaul the WNCC HIT program by making advancements into new realms of health information management and data analysis education," WNCC HIT Program Director Nicole Danielzuk said. "Moving forward, we are happy to offer students a quality online education with updated curriculum and excited to assist students with their new career in health information management as educated HIT professionals."
WNCC's HIT program prepares students for entry-level healthcare positions rooted in technology such as medical coders, medical records specialists, and health information technicians.
The HIT program is 100 percent online and serves students across the country. Students are able to earn a Coding Diploma and an Associates of Applied Science in Health Information Technology.
Medical records and health information technicians are considered a high-wage, high-demand, and high-skill job by the Nebraska Department of Labor, with a national median wage of more than $45,000 in 2020, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
