Warriors Start Strong

Leyton's Warrior Basketball team has a nice 2-to-0 start for the year with victories over Kimball and Morrill over the week.

On Friday the Warriors hosted the Longhorns, and were able to build a comfortable lead early in the game, extending their advantage to 17 points by the end of the first period. Leyton continued to score well while playing good defense against the Longhorns, and went into the halftime with a solid 37-to-20 lead. Leyton continued their strong play through the third period then coasted through the fourth, and cruised their way to a 65-to-37 victory. Leyton junior Justin Ernest led the offense with 26 points, and the defense combined for 22 steals in the win.

On Saturday, the Warriors traveled to Morrill to match up against the Lions for afternoon action. Leyton had a slow start and trouble making their shots, and fell behind 12-to-5 at the end of the first period. Leyton got on track in the second period, and played better defense and went into halftime down 20-to-19.  The Warriors came out of the break fired up and went on a good offensive run, scoring 18 points to Morill's 9 in the third period to take the lead, and Leyton continued into the fourth quarter and pulled away with the 51-to-40 win.

Leyton starts the season at 2-and-0 and next hosts Peetz, Colo., on Thursday in Dalton.
