Sidney Economic Development Director Resigns

Early this summer, the City of Sidney announced Kim Matthews as the new economic development director. She replaced Melissa Norgard who resigned to work in the family business, Sam and Louie's of Sidney.

On Dec. 5, Matthews announced in an email that she submitted her resignation to the City on Friday, Dec. 3.

“On Friday, I submitted my 30-day resignation  letter to David Scott, our City Manager. My last day will be on January 3rd, 2022,” she said in the email.

“I want to thank everyone in Sidney, Cheyenne County, and the City Offices for a warm, supportive environment. Your resilience is forever inspiring! “ she said.”

Matthews entered her duties with the City of Sidney with experience in rural and urban settings. She entered the job with almost two decades of economic development experience including developing non-profits with for-profit entities built for long-term sustainability to building bridges between rural Nebraska communities and UNL researchers. She also spent time in global locations, having taught in Korea and on the Zuni Reservation in New Mexico.

She said in a press release upon taking the role of economic developer that she had the opportunity to live “all over the U.S. and overseas” but chose Nebraska as the place to raise her children. Her children are now grown. Her daughter completed her service in the US Air Force as a Chinese Linguist and is working on her bachelor's degree in England. Her son is working on his dissertation and will receive his PhD in economics from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Matthews learned about the economic development opportunity after moving to the Dalton area.
