Stand in the Gap

Behind every agency reaching out to those in need are the costs of meeting those needs.

The buildings that house the dry goods and refrigerated products are kept cool by the cost of utilities paid each month.

From basic clothes to essential food for the family, Sidney is blessed to have agencies designed to help those in need. We as a community also need to remember to support these agencies, even more so in today’s challenges.

Among the outreach programs in Sidney is the Table of Grace. The program has a thrift shop whose revenue supports the food pantry in part. A large part of the funding comes from donations private and public.t. Historically, Bell Lumber and Pole leads the way for funding, offering a matching grant. This year, the company is offering a matching grant up to $20,000.

The Sun-Telegraph urges the community to recognize the impact COVID continues to have on both sides of the counter with our giving agencies. They do what they can to help households in need. Now it is our turn to stand in the gap, offer what we can as businesses and individuals, to ensure agencies committed to serving the needy in our area can continue to do so.

Table of Grace has made its situation known. However, in fairness others with a similar focus are or will be facing a similar challenge. Bring the holidays early. Be thankful by supporting those agencies that offer help for people in need.
