Eve of Destruction

During the 1960’s Barry McGuire sang a rather bleak soul-shaking song called the Eve of Destruction.

In it he lists various reasons why he believed the world was on the brink of destruction. Among the reasons he listed were such things that was (and still is) going on in the Middle East, the threat of nuclear war, the hate in Red China, and the general increase of violence in the U.S. and the world in general.

Most of my generation was relatively familiar with the song as virtually every radio station in the U.S. played it frequently. Personally I prefer the Beach Boys, Duane Eddy, the Ventures and the like. Today the ultra left wing of a certain U.S. political party is playing the same old Eve of Destruction song – Fear.

The new lyrics go something like this: Give us power or the world is doomed. Give us money, money and more money to fix the environment. We know better than you. You’re too stupid to fix the problems we’ve invented. Listen now… we’re on the eve of destruction. Fear the doom we proclaim. Don’t question its truth… we tell you we’re on the eve of destruction unless you obey…

Lousy lyrics… but the left doesn’t care. The continual drumbeat of fear is their chosen weapon to conquer all dissent. And unless people wake up and take a stand against their lies, the future will be bleak indeed.

But you say “the environment is getting worse, the world is heating up… the end could be very close.” (Anyone remember the movie about the coming Ice Age that was going to ravage the world? That was the 1st mournful tune used to scare the daylights out of us. It didn’t work so well, so they changed the lyrics.) I say cool down and check the facts. The climate of the world is changing and has been in a state of change since it was first created. This is the way God made it so that over worked areas can rest and be replenished, while formerly unusable areas become producers of the things we need. Go back and check it out. Areas that were once deserts are now producing rich crops of various kinds, like they did in the days of Moses.

I experienced the Dust Bowl of the late 1940’s and early 50’s that hit Oklahoma and Kansas. Those were quite hot and dry years! Those states now produce a lot of the food you and I, and livestock eat (and their temperatures are much lower these days!). Another cry of the left is that the Polar ice cap is melting because of man-made climate change.

Do any of you remember the U.S. submarine that surfaced at the North Pole in the mid-50s? Yeah the USS Nautilus that forced its way through a couple of feet of ice! Look up the pictures and see for yourself (unless Google has removed them!) The polar ice caps are in a state of constant change. Some years the ice is melting away and other years it builds up. I know because I lived in Alaska during the late 1950s and through the ‘60s.

Blaming humans for these changes is farcical, to say the least. How can you blame mankind for the climate changes that doomed the wooly mammoth, among other species? They died off long, long, long years before there ever was an industrial revolution capable of producing all those greenhouse gases that they claim destroys our environment. A single volcano can put more deadly pollutants into the air in a matter of minutes than all of the major industrial areas on the globe combined.

Exactly what is a greenhouse gas? It is CO2 (carbon dioxide). What they don’t tell you is that plants use CO2 to manufacture the plant sugar they need to grow! And that is why it is called a greenhouse gas. It has nothing to do with forcing the world’s climate to change. Imagine that!

The use of the term “climate change” by the socialist left wing of certain political movements in the U.S. and around the world to instill fear is nothing more than an emotional weapon to put you and I into the chains of fear so they can control us.

I lived in Southern California in the late 1950’s and saw first hand the air pollution in San Francisco, Los Angeles and other major California cities. There were days when you could hardly see across the street because the “smog” was so thick. The main ingredient in smog was carbon monoxide (CO), not CO2. Guess what? Today you don’t see anything remotely like the way it was then. Instead you have hysterical calls to interfere with routine brush removal and other “climate damaging” techniques that has resulted in many of the devastating forest fires in California.

They used to do controlled burns to clear out the brush that becomes dry and contributes to fast spreading fires. No more and we have witnessed the results of that bit of climate management. More fires, larger fires and more smoke into the air. Good job California and your environmental push!

Someday the world will be destroyed, but it won’t be at the hands of humankind. God will be the One who does it. Read the Book of Revelation in the Bible. The good news is that He creates a brand new world that is better than anything human governments could ever imagine, much less bring to pass – and it will last forever! Until then, calm down and force our government to do the impossible: use common sense.

P.S. When humans obtain the power to control a world’s climate, then they might(!?) claim to be superhuman, and maybe even gods! Don’t hold your breath.)
