Virgil J. Frerichs, age 78, of Lodgepole, NE passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 in Sidney, NE.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 27, 2021 in Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lodgpole, NE with Pastor Leon “Bud” Gillespie officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Johns Cemetery in Lodgepole. Cremation has been held. Services will be recorded and available on our website for viewing. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday from 1-6:00 P.M. to sign Virgil’s register book and leave condolences for the family.

Virgil was born on March 9, 1943, the first son of John and Thelma (Rehmers) Frerichs. “Virg” was baptized on April 18th, 1943 in Weyerts Immanuel Church and was confirmed April 16, 1957. “Virg” grew up in the Weyerts community and attended District 32 Weyerts School through the 8th grade and graduated from Lodgepole High School with the class of 1962. After high school, he followed the harvest crew with Al Reed and Gene Darnsted.
He worked on the missile bases around Cheyenne, Wyoming. He then attended Carolina National School of Equipment Operators, Inc. receiving a Certification of Completion in the prescribed course of study of crawler tractor and scraper on February 8, 1964, in North Carolina.
Virgil went to work for Morrison Knudsen before starting at the Egging Company in 1962 where he worked until his retirement in April 2013. He was involved with raising cows and calves with his dad until 1972 when his father passed away. He started farming the family farm with his brother Bob Frerichs.
Virgil married Judy Headley on September 21, 1969 at the Weyerts Immanuel Church and to this union, three children were born, Jerry, Shawntel and Tony. Virgil enjoyed riding horses, snow skiing and fishing. When the decision was made to sell the horses and do something practical, he bought a Can-Am motorcycle and really enjoyed riding. He had plans on taking many trips.
Survivors include his wife, Judy, three children, Jerry (Debra) Frerichs of Las Vegas, NV, Shawntel (Travis) Delano of Gentry, AR and Tony Frerichs of Lodgepole, NE. Grandchildren Nicholas, Justin and Chad Delano, Rachel Frerichs, Alex, Savannah and Christina Frerichs and three Great Granddaughters, Shaylin, Bailey and Alexis. Sister Betty (Joe) McMahon of Papillion, NE. Brothers Lloyd, Fred, Bob (Marty) and John Frerichs all of Lodgepole, NE and Jerry (Helen) Frerichs of Sedgewick, CO. Many nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma Frerichs, nephew Adam Frerichs, sister-in-laws Charlene and Destiny Frerichs, Linda Adams, Genny Schepker, brother-in-laws Jim Adams, Larry Schepker and Bill Palmer.
