Gillis 'Gil' Glen Sebold

Gillis “Gil” Glen Sebold, age 91, of Sidney, NE peacefully passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 in the presence of his beloved family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, August 16, 2021 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney, NE with Father C.P. Varghese officiating. There will be no burial at this time. Cremation has been held. Services will be recorded and available on our website for viewing.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Monday morning to sign Gil’s register book and leave condolences for the family.

Gil was born January 7, 1930 to Louie and Emma Sebold in Pleasanton, NE. He attended Sidney Public Schools and moved on to join the Headquarters 5th Army in 1948. During his time served, he was granted the opportunity to play on the basketball team for his unit and ended his time in the Service in 1951. Following, Gil made a living working for Schlumberger, owning the Barker Cleaners of Sidney, and eventually working as a carpenter building houses. Despite all of his successes, Gil’s greatest accomplishment was the family he would come to build and cherish.

The love for his family began as a child growing up with 11 siblings and continued on as he came to make a family of his own. At age 22, Gil met the love of his life, Lois Keenan. They married in Aurora, CO on December 12, 1952 and would go on to celebrate a total of 69 years of marriage. Together they had two sons and a multitude of grandchildren. In addition to being an avid family man, Gillis was an outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing and bird hunting, as well as, a man who enjoyed playing cards and dancing.

Preceded in death by his mother and father, Louie and Emma Sebold; mother and father-in-law, Loran and Lucy Keenan; sisters, Loraine, Arlene, Renee, Dorothy, Gloria, and Beverly; brothers, Louis, Dallas, Doug, and Ronnie; granddaughter, Danielle Belhmira, and great-grandson, Mark Swanson Jr.

Gil is survived by his wife, Lois Sebold; 2 sons and their spouses, Rick and Lynn Sebold, Scott and Carmen Sebold; sister, Cindy Knowles; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
