The changes to fireworks sales because of LB 152, a bill introduced by Senator Slama, and signed by Governor Ricketts on May 5, 2021 are in effect for this year. This bill allows for the sale of fireworks labeled as 1.4G explosives and allows some items that were previously prohibited in Nebraska. Nighttime parachutes and items commonly called bottle rockets can now be sold in Nebraska. Wire sparklers remain prohibited in Nebraska.
Flying lantern-type devices, commonly referred to as Sky Lanterns, are still prohibited for sale, possession, and use in Nebraska per Neb. Rev. Stat. §28-1255.
The State Fire Marshal Agency encourages everyone to follow all local ordinances, to be respectful of your neighbors, and to read and follow all safety instructions when using fireworks to help ensure a happy and safe Independence Day for everyone.
