Ross Philo Thompson, age 94, of Sidney, NE passed away Monday, May 24, 2021 in Sidney.
Burial will be at 9 A.M. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 in the Chappell Cemetery in Chappell, NE with funeral services to follow at 11 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney, NE with Pastor Corey Jenkins officiating. Services will be recorded and available on our website for viewing Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1-6:00 P.M. to sign Ross’s register book and leave condolences for the family. Memorials can be made in Ross’s name to the First United Methodist Church, 2622 11th Ave, Sidney, NE 69162.

Ross was born on March 3, 1927 in Allen, NE to Philo and Gladys (Penlerick) Thompson. The eldest of eight children. He attended school in Allen, NE through the 9th grade. He served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1947. He served in Germany for a year in the tank division.
In 1947 he and his wife, Ann, moved to Chappell, NE where he worked for a Land company. Ann passed away in 1978. Ross moved to Sidney in 1980 and was employed by the State of Nebraska.
He married Carol Harms on June 30, 1984 and she passed away in June of 1989.
On July 27, 1991 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Gibbins. Ross retired in 1993.
After Bonnie retired from teaching school, they did a lot of traveling in the United States and Canada. The last big trip for them was a cruise to Alaska.
Ross is survived by his loving wife Bonnie of 29 years, his two sons Gary and wife Elaine and Dennis and wife Peggy. His grandchildren Jeffrey and wife Shauna, Kelly, Terry and wife Summer, Angela and husband Craig Hunt. Also, special grandchildren Ashish, Sachin, Stutika, Siona and Preeti Kshirsager of Sidney. Great grandchildren Lucian and Chance Thompson, Ethan and Mia Thompson, Mia Hunt and Christian Thompson. Sisters-in-law Janet Thompson and Jean Thompson. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Richard and Joyce Gibbins and Roland and Rosalind Gibbins and many other relatives and dear friends.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Michael, Merlyn, Norman, Manuel and Patrick and sisters Betty Miner and Edith Taylor.
