Celebrating Retirement

Three Sidney Public School employees celebrated their retirement on Wednesday of last week with cakes, well-wishes and heartfelt tributes by the Sidney Public Schools staff and friends at the Sidney High School commons area.

Harless worked a total of 29 years in education, working as a traveling nurse for 13 years before moving to Sidney inn 1992 and continuing her nursing career at Sidney Public Schools. She plans on staying in the area and visiting with her son in San Diego and daughter in St. Louis whenever possible.

Thorpe worked in education for 45 years in total, 15 years at St. Patrick's in Sidney, then two years in Leyton, then two years as a substitute before settling in at Sidney High School for 27 years.

Thorpe worked in Special Education and said mostly values the lifelong relationships he forged with his students and other faculty members as his best memory. An active volleyball coach, Thorpe says he doesn't know what's next for him after retirement, but he's sure he'll get involved with other projects and activities soon enough.

Bules worked for 24 years total in education, with seven years at Lodgepole before working for 17 years in Sidney. She also worked in Special Education and lives on a farm northeast of Lodgepole. She plans on helping her husband run the farm and enjoying retired life.
