Leyton Boys Dominate D-9 District Meet

The D-9 District Track Meet was held Wednesday, May 12 at Creek Valley High School, and the area schools had many athletes with outstanding performances that qualified them for the State Tournament in Omaha next week.

The Leyton boy’s took top honors in the team competition, while Crawford won the girl’s team competition. Leyton qualifies 11 boys and two girls for the State Meet, Potter-Dix is sending five boys and one girl, while Creek Valley is sending one boy.

The weather cooperated nicely, with a cool breeze keeping the temperature down until rain showers hit later in the afternoon.

The morning started with the throwing and jumping events, and the Leyton boys had a strong showing in the Shot Put and Discus, placing three athletes in the top six for both events. Leyton senior Zack Henke continued his successful season by winning both the Shot Put and Discus, both with personal best throws, qualifying him for the Sate Tournament in both events.

Leyton’s Jonathan Borges finished second in the Shot Put to also qualify him for the State Meet. Potter-Dix’s Thomas Muldoon and Luke Kasten finished first and second in the High Jump, while Potter-Dix’s Jared Anton won the Pole Vault. Second place finishes by Leyton’s Dominick Russ in the Long Jump and Mason Reimers in the Triple Jump qualify both for the State Meet. Leyton’s Matthew Shepard and Potter-Dix’s Luke Kasten finished first and second in the 100 Meters to qualify for States, Mason Reimers won the 200 Meters to qualify for States, Potter-dix’s Thomas Muldoon and Leyton’s Justin Ernest finished first and second in the 800 Meters to qualify for States. Leyton’s Gabriel Tretter won the 1600 Meters to qualify for States an Leyton’s Scout Gamble won the 110 Meter Hurdles to also qualify.

Leyton’s 4x100 Meter Relay Team won their event to qualify for the States. Both the Leyton 4x100 and 4x800 Meter Relay teams also qualified for the State Meet. Potter-Dix also qualified Ben Johnson in the 200 Meters, and Zach Rotert and Brayden Kasten in the 4x800 Meter Relay. Creek Valley’s Lucas Trujillo qualified for the 800 Meters.

For the girls, Leyton’s Axi Benish qualified in the 800 Meters with a second place finish, and Sage Rummell qualified for the Pole Vault by winning the event.

Potter-Dix’s Jayden Shoemaker won the High Jump, qualifying her for the State Meet, and Creek Valley’s KK Fletcher qualified for the High Jump with a second place finish and Samantha Marin qualified for the 3200 Meters also with a second place finish..

The Class D State Meet takes place on Friday and Saturday at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
