Leyton’s Warrior Track and Filed team hosted the Cheyenne County Meet on Friday, and nearly perfect weather combined with Leyton’s new Track and Field facilities for a fantastic day of competition.
Leyton took top honors in the boy’s varsity competition, while South Platte placed first for the girl’s varsity teams.
Outstanding performances for the Leyton boys included junior K.J. Bush placing second in the 200 Meters, sophomore Gabriel Tretter placing second in the 1600 Meters, junior Scout Gamble winning the 110 Meter Hurdles, the Relay teams sweeping the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 Meter Relays, senior Zack Henke and junior Jonathan Borges taking first and second places in the Shot Put, Henke also winning the Discus, and sophomore Damon Russ taking second in the Triple Jump.
Potter-Dix’s boys team placed second overall, with outstanding performances including sophomore Luke Kasten placing second in the 100 Meters, sophomore Ben Johnson winning the 200 Meters, junior Thomas Muldoon and Luke Kasten placing second and third in the 800 Meters, freshman Brayden Kasten winning the 1600 Meters, sophomore James Pease placing second in the 3200 Meters and third in the 300 Meter Hurdles, the Relay Teams took second place in the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 Meter Relays, Thomas Muldoon winning the High Jump, junior Jared Anton winning the Pole Vault and senior Brandon Mendoza placing second in the Long Jump, earning the team a second place overall finish.
The Creek Valley boy’s team placed sixth overall, with outstanding performances by junior Lucas Trujillo placing second in the 400 Meters and fourth in the Long Jump and senior Alex Caraveo placing fourth in the 800 Meters.
For the girls varsity, Leyton senior Sage Rummel placed third in the 100 Meters and third in the Pole Vault, sophomore Axi Benish won the 400 Meters and 800 Meters, the 4x100 Meter Relay team placed second, freshman Kaitlyn Craig won the Shot Put, earning the team a second place overall finish.
Potter-Dix’s girls squad placed fifth overall, and outstanding performances included sophomore Kallie Crossman placing second and third in the 100 Meter and 200 Meter races, sophomore Kylie Fiehtner placing second in the 400 Meters, the 4x100 and 4x800 Meter Relay teams placing third, sophomore Jayden Shoemaker placing third in the High Jump and sophomore Sierra Schinker placing fourth in the Pole Vault.
Creek Valley’s girls squad placed seventh overall, with highlights including freshman Samantha Marin placing second in the 1600 Meters and third in the 400 Meters, sophomore Ella Ningen placing fourth in the 800 Meters, and sophomore Elizabeth Whiting placing fourth in the 300 Meter Hurdles.
