Peetz’s Bulldog Basketball team earned their first two wins of the season over the past week, with victories over Weldon Valley and North Park. The Bulldogs hosted Weldon Valley on Thursday February 11, and needed to hold off a fourth quarter rally by the visiting Warriors to secure their first win of the season.
The game started slowly with both teams playing tough defense and Weldon Valley pulling out an 11-to-10 lead at the end of the first period. Peetz went on a 6-to-0 run to start the second quarter, and were able to take an 18-to-16 lead into the halftime intermission. Peetz then had a big third quarter, with the Bulldogs holding the Warriors to just two points in the frame while scoring 15 points to take a 33-to-18 lead into the fourth quarter. But Weldon Valley got hot, and went on a 15-to-4 run to narrow the Peetz lead to 38-to-31 in the final minutes of play. But the Bulldogs hung tough and made their free throws down the stretch to stop the Weldon Valley rally, and earn the 49-to-38 win and finally get into the victory column. Senior Nolan Hill and freshman Noah Naegele led the scoring for Peetz with 15 points each.
Peetz then hosted Fleming on Tuesday February 16, and the Wildcats stormed out to a 20-to-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs’ offense played better in the second period, but Peetz still found themselves down 35-to-17 at the half. Fleming then came out hot in the third period and put up another 22 points against Peetz’s 19, and then closed the game out with a 15-to-9 fourth quarter for the 72-to-45 victory.
Peetz then hosted the winless North Park Wildcats on Saturday February 20, and were able to build an early lead and continue to score and earn a 59-to-43 victory over the struggling Wildcats. The Bulldogs were scheduled to travel to Weldon Valley on Tuesday, Prairie on Thursday and then to Otis on Friday this week.
