Raiders Send Four to State

The weekend snow storm could not stop the action at the B-4 District Championships in Gering on Saturday as Sidney qualified four wrestlers to compete in the NSAA State Wrestling Championships in Omaha later this week.

In last week’s Sub-District tournament, Sidney qualified eight wrestlers to compete in the District Championships. Although none won an individual championship on Saturday, four Sidney wrestlers will move on to the Class B Championships at the CTI Center in Omaha on Friday.

Freshman Chance Houser (39-and-2) continued his stellar freshman campaign with a second place finish at 106 lbs, junior Austin Munier (34-and-9) also finished second at 120 lbs, senior Brady Robb (33-and-3) finished third at 182 lbs, and senior Hunter Ahrendt (22-and-13) finished second at 195 lbs. The finishes earned the Sidney team sixth place in the overall team standings.

Leyton freshman Trenton Rushman qualified for the State Tournament at 106 lbs, earning third place at the D-4 District Tournament at Sutherland on Saturday, and will be only the second Leyton wrestler to compete at the State Tournament. He will wrestle in the Class D Tournament on Thursday.
