Comedian Rex Havens Coming to Sidney

Comedian Rex Havens will take the stage at the Sidney High School Performing Arts Center 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, to present his fast-paced multi-media comedy “Women and Children First!”

Tickets are $13 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for students including WNCC, and children under 5 are free. Tickets are available at the door.

As a thank-you for supporting the High Plains Arts Council, the council will have a drawing for one senior and one family membership for the 2021-2022 season. Entry forms will be available at the Rex Havens show on Feb. 27, and the Mark Carrick Collective performance on April 17. Each audience member can enter once per show. Winners will be announced at the Glenn Miller Orchestra performance on June 20. Entries do not have to be present to win.

The show, which utilizes more than 500 still images, 10 video and 15 audio clips, is an original look at men and women from the eyes of an impartial observer. What would an alien examining Earth think of these strange creatures? Rex applies his own combination of logic, bemusement and insanity in a way that is engaging, thoughtful and hilarious.

A former college professor, Havens believes that laughter is the best defense against a confusing and challenging world, so he made the transition to the standup comedy stage in the 80s. Since then, his unique take on marriage and family has propelled him to performances in all 50 states and 20 countries. He has appeared on HBO, Showtime, Comedy Central, and Comic Relief, has opened for Jerry Seinfield and Jeff Foxworthy, is a regular on Sirius/XM Radio and is the author of the hit book and CD “Everything I Needed to Know I Learned From My Wife!”

The most frequent comment after a Rex Havens show is “I never knew a G-rated comedy could be that funny! I laughed so much my face hurts!” That is Rex’s goal — to leave the audience happy with just the right amount of facial pain.

“We are so excited to be bringing this family-friendly show to our audience,” says High Plains Arts Council president Carrie Brown. “Rex Will have them rolling in the aisle!”

The High Plains Arts Council (HPAC) is working closely with the Panhandle Public Health District during this pandemic to insure that precautions are taken and the community stays safe. This will include wearing a mask, physical distancing, and extra cleaning. In addition, a five-minute stretch will replace a 15-minute intermission and the audience will be encouraged to refrain from socializing after the show. Havens will not meet and greet audience members, and merchandise will not be offered for sale.
