Storm's Struggles Continue

Creek Valley’s Storm Basketball teams have had a rough opening to their seasons, with the Lady Storm only earning one win while the boys team is surprisingly winless going into the Christmas break.

The teams traveled for tournament action on December 21 and 22, and the Lady Storm first faced the Wallace Lady Wildcats. A slow start on offense coupled with a tough Wallace defense had the Lady Storm falling behind quickly, and at the end of the half Creek Valley was down 28-to-7.

Creek Valley only managed another seven points in the second half, and fell by a final score of 54-to-14. Freshman Brenna Isenbart led the scoring , burying three three-pointers for nine points in the loss. The Lady Storm struggled from the line making just 1-of-6 free throws. The Lady Storm finished the tournament against Hyannis, and again fell behind early and lost by a score of 49-to-18. The Lady Storm are now 1-and-6 on the season.

The boys team faced Wallace on the December 21, and again faltered in the early going falling behind 24-to-11 at the end of the first period. But the Storm offense picked up in the second quarter and kept pace with the Wildcats, but still trailed 41-to-27 at the half.

The Storm could not stop the Wildcats offense and were unable to narrow the lead, and fell by a final score of 70-to-52. Senior Oakley Hodges had a fine night offensively, scoring 20 points and sinking two from beyond the three-point arc.

Creek Valley looked to match up well against Hyannis on December 22, but after a 13-to-13 tie to end the first quarter, the Storm’s shooting went cold and they went into the intermission trailing 27-to-21. Another soft quarter in the third put them behind by 12 going into the fourth quarter, and although the offense came alive in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough to make up the deficit and the Storm fell by a final score of 55-to-47. Junior Brayden Johnson led the scoring for the Storm with 18 points in the loss. The defeat keeps the Storm winless at 0-and-7. The teams break until January 8 when they travel for action against Stapleton.
