Sidney Man Arrested on Child Enticement Charges

Daniels Arrested December 8

A Sidney man was arrested recently based on documentation presented by a group independent of law enforcement.

On Wednesday, December 2, Sidney Police Officers arrested Jamie Daniels, 45, of Sidney, for the offense of Child Enticement, according to a release from the Cheyenne County Attorney's office.

A team that calls themselves “Predator Poachers” was involved. Messages were exchanged between Daniels and an 18 year old female, who represented herself to be 8 years old. During these messages, Daniels expressed interest in meeting the person and to engage in sexual acts.

Members of “Predator Poachers” drove to Sidney and confronted Daniels. They posted their meeting on YouTube. Crimes involving child enticement require that the victim be underage (16 years old or younger when an electronic device is used). There is an exception when a law enforcement officer portrays to be the underage participant. But there is no exception where a non-law enforcement officer portrays to be the participant.

As a result, a charge for Child Enticement was declined on Thursday, December 3. Daniels has been released from jail. The matter remains open for investigation while electronic devices are being forensically analyzed.

Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs confirmed the investigation is ongoing.

Questions to the Sidney Police Department were referred to Schaub. An arrest warrant was issued the afternoon of December 8, according to a press release issued today, December 9, by Suzanne Gage, Director of Communications, Nebraska Attorney General's Office. Daniels was arrested by Sidney Police officers and is in custody. Bond is set at $100,000, requiring a deposit of 10 percent.

Daniels was arrested December 8 for Attempted First Degree Assault of a Child, a Class 2 Felony. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.

The Nebraska Attorney General's Office will assist the Cheyenne County Attorney's Office with the prosecution of the case.
